Mechanical Engineer

[Employer] is a brand new company but comes with a long and proud history of providing metals and minerals of all kinds to customers around the world. The Group owns and operates a portfolio of world-class base metal mining operations, development projects and exploration fields.

[Employer] is the world’s second largest producer of zinc as well as a substantial producer of copper, lead, gold and silver. The group currently has mining operations located in Australia and Asia and a large portfolio of advanced and early stage exploration projects through Australia, Asia and North America.

[Mine] in Queensland which is the world’s second largest open pit zinc mine – producing some 500,000 tonnes of zinc annually.

The Role
Reporting to the Superintendent Engineering, the Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for providing mechanical engineering and project support and guidance to the [Mine] .

Responsibilities will include:
·         Ensuring safety, health and environment issues relating to engineering tasks to meet the [Employer] Management Standards.
·         Assisting with forecasting and execution of the capital plan in areas of process and equipment reliability improvement.
·         Providing support to the engineering team for project design and control.
·         Providing construction supervision for multi-disciplined projects
·         Ensuring that full completion of projects is achieved including punch lists executed, SAP information updated, manuals and as-built drawings received, and all relevant documentation is obtained and recorded
·         Managing and monitoring actual performance against capital budget and plan using SAP reporting

The successful Applicant
This role requires a person with both well developed technical skills and personal attributes including the following:
·         Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
·         Post graduate experience
·         Previous mining or heavy industry experience desirable
·         Demonstrated Project Planning and Management experience
·         Computer skills and SAP knowledge
·         Contract administration experience in an engineering or construction environment
·         Demonstrated sound written and oral communication skills
·         A positive approach and commitment to continuous improvement
