Operations Planning Superintendent

[Employer] is the world’s largest seaborne coking coal supplier. [Employer] operates nine mine sites and a coal loading port in Central Queensland. Owned and operated by[Employer] , [Mine] is one of the world’s largest open cut coal operations, producing 9 Mtpa of hard coking coal. Our 800 employees live [Location].
 
[Mine] is seeking a dynamic mining professional with a proven commitment to Health, Safety and the Environment and continuous improvement in mining operations.
 
Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, you will effectively supervise a team of Mining Engineers and Graduate Mining Engineers to achieve superior results. It will be your responsibility to ensure the effective planning, co-ordination and continuous improvement of short term mine planning activities, including the provision of operations monitoring and reporting. A key member of the Technical Services leadership team, you will play an integral role in assisting the Site Management team in the setting of strategic direction and driving the change management initiatives of the operation.
 
A results-driven and customer-focussed professional with proven project management experience, you will assist the [Mine] operation in extracting maximum value out of its short term planning activities.
 
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
·         Actively contributing to a safe and environmentally healthy workplace;
·         Providing leadership, coaching and mentoring of staff within the group, including the setting of annual KPIs for the team;
·         Performance management including the setting of individual job goals, monitoring, and completion of performance reviews against key criteria;
·         Providing necessary business analyses to identify opportunities for continuous improvement to enable the achievement of the business plan;
·         Lead the strategic direction of the mine by providing input into and implementing the budget and short term forecasts;
·         Involvement in optimising planning scenarios to maximise business opportunities;
·         Co-ordination of short term planning processes, including Drill and Blast, Truck Shovel Prestrip, Dragline Stripping, Coal Quality, Scheduling, and Geology;
·         Effective management of safety, environmental, and geo-technical risks during the planning process;
·         Assisting in the development of a cohesive network between technical, operational, maintenance and commercial personnel.
 
The successful candidate must have:
·         Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline;
·         A proven record of competence at an advanced level in mine planning, scheduling, sound financial skills;
·         Demonstrated communication and change management skills ;
·         Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills;
·         Excellent interpersonal skills in leading a team of operational and technical personnel;
·         Demonstrated self-motivation and enthusiasm.
 
In addition:
·         Demonstrated operational experience in relevant functions would be an advantage.
·         Successful completion and/or accreditation in formal leadership training e.g. Certificate IV in Business (Frontline Management) or equivalent will be highly regarded.
