Principal Geotechnical Engineer

 
[Employer] is Australia’s largest coal producer, with nine mine sites and a coal loading port in Central Queensland. As the world’s largest seaborne coking coal supplier, [Employer] is uniquely poised to offer experience and career development opportunities difficult to find elsewhere.
 
Based[Location] , the Project Development Group (PDG) is tasked with becoming a Centre of Excellence for the undertaking of studies and delivery of significant sustaining and capital projects within [Employer] . The Project Development Group provides project delivery services to [Employer] through the management of all phases of the investment life cycle, with a view to maximising return on investment.
 
With geotechnical investigation and design, a key element in [Employer] investment standards across all project phases from identification through to execution, we are currently seeking an experienced Principal Geotechnical Engineer. Adding value to[Employer] , the successful applicant will manage geotechnical risk through the development and use of mine design controls, allowing for the safe and efficient operation of our development initiatives. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing and managing the Project Development Groups’ geotechnical engineering function, supporting Identification, Selection and Definition Studies in accordance with [Employer] Investment Standards.
 
With post graduate tertiary qualifications in Geotechnical Engineering / Engineering Geology, you will have extensive geotechnical experience within a broad range of mining environments including open-cut and underground mining. Demonstrated working knowledge of open-cut slope stability aspects, data analysis, along with previous experience with sedimentary environments will be highly regarded. Additionally, the successful applicant should have previous exposure to box cut design, high wall safety parameters and bench widths, underground portal entry design, longwall mine design with respect to geotechnical constraints, equipment selection and hazard identification.
 
With timely and fit for purpose geotechnical design, fundamental to the attainment of both zero harm and project objectives, the successful applicant will be required to understand and mitigate risks in order to deliver safe, sustainable mine environments and operations.
